Nude With Cat started as a musical experiment, but turned out to be something quite different.

The NWC family "We originally wanted just to stuff around with musical instruments and stuff. And to have a little fun. Yeah, just enjoy ourselves. But Nude With Cat has become an obsession, a lifestyle."

- Robert Howe, vocalist

The Nude With Cat band, or family, as the guys prefer, originally consisted of five musical magicians: The NWC family

The above listed musical talent hail from three different parts of Australia (Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide). In 1991, these persons were hand-picked to form Nude With Cat, and the band as we know it today gathered at Crocker Studios, Melbourne, throughout January-February 1992 to create their debut hit - a remake of the Human League giant killing track Don't You Want Me, Baby. Success for the band quickly followed.

The spotlight was suddenly thrust on Nude With Cat. Demand for their debut hit swept incessantly through the radio networks of the land, earning rave reviews from even the most discursive of music critics.

The NWC family

The world cried out for more Nude With Cat. So in January 1993 the follow-up smash was created, Nine-to-five - the Morning Train Song, originally done by the impeccable Sheena Easton.

And to show that the band does have a lighter side, Here I am, the One That You Love (the football team version) was released to coincide with the Easton remake.

The NWC family "We feel we don't need to talk about what we are all about - we know our message comes out, purely and simply, in our music."

- Jeff Evans, vocalist

After the success of 'Train', it appeared NWC had faded into a non-nude obscurity. For nearly two years, nothing was heard from the band, although sightings of individual members were reported from various parts of the nation. Jeff was apparently working on his own at a petrol station somewhere on the Moree Plains in northern New South Wales. There were reports that Robert had started a chartered accountancy firm in Parramatta, while a bearded Matt was supposed to be one of the main players of the ill-fated Rocktober Revival series of concerts. Fans were left wondering - pondering - where NWC had gone, and what they were doing.

But in September 1996 the speculation suddenly ended. A new NWC hit Goosebumps (yes, another remake) suddenly shook the music world. It was a song two years in the making, and the effort showed the very first time people heard the track.

The NWC family "Although it was with great pride we remade Human League and 'Supply, to redo any one of Christie Allen's early 80s' classics was in all honestly a dream come true. But Goosebumps!? - and a high-quality remake at that. What an honour. What a bloody honour."

- Andrew Howe, vocalist

'Bumps' heralded the arrival of three new NWC family members. Jason Howe, Simon Roberts and Jamie Shepherd added a new dimension - make that three new dimensions - to an already formidable sound.

And was Bumps the greatest NWC song ever released? The arguments continue to this day.

Although the members are loathe to admit it, musical and style influence from other performing legends form an important aspect of our music - and what the public hears as our final product.

Our more respected inspirants include:

The NWC family "The distinctive spoken word vocals of Mat Hunt in all of NWCs better songs has earned raves from all over the music community. Rod Herpidge, editor of 'Sounds Unlimited Weekly' was quoted as saying that Hunt's vocals sounded more like Tom Jones than Jones himself."
